UK book chains ban self published books

Yet again, respectable self-publishers are being punished because of the actions of the unscrupulous few.  UK high street bookseller W.H. Smith has barred self-published titles from its on-line bookstore.

They took down their site and said that they will not display any self-published material until they are confident that inappropriate books can never be shown again.

That's never then, and another outlet to self-publishers is closed.  More worryingly, Amazon too has temporarily removed large numbers of titles from its site.

The W. H. Smith site is now up again, but with no ebooks on sale.

It seems we have a new set of gatekeepers.  Now it's not the publishers who block our route to market, but the booksellers.
